SYRACUSE — Turkey Creek Fire Department confirms an apparent drowning happened Friday afternoon on Lake Wawasee.
The incident was reported at 1:52 p.m. of a missing person in the area of the sandbar on Lake Wawasee, the fire department reported in a post on it Facebook page.
A multi-agency search and rescue response was immediately requested from initial reports, with a unified command post established at the Lake Wawasee Public Access and an operational division working from East Highland View Drive.
After nearly an hour, the person was found about three feet below the surface in an area of the lake where the water depth was approximately 20 feet.
Crews immediately began lifesaving efforts, but unfortunately, those efforts were unsuccessful.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
