News Release
WABASH — A major reconstruction of an intersection along US 24 in Wabash is set to begin early next week and will continue for months.
The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Friday that construction on U.S. 24 will begin as soon as Monday on a stretch from State Road 13 and State Road 115.
Major intersection improvements will take place at US 24 and Wabash Street.
Crews will construct a Reduced Conflict Intersection, which is an alternative to a traditional intersection on a four-lane highway.
The changes would reconfigure the traditional intersection of the highway in an effort to improve safety.

Instead of motorists crossing fast-moving lanes of traffic to get to the opposing lanes, drivers at an RCI turn right in the same direction of traffic, merge into the left lane, and then make a U-turn in the direction they intend to travel.

Slotted left turn construction will also take place at the US 24 intersections with SR 13, Albert Street and SR 115. There will also be numerous pipe installations at various locations throughout the corridor.
The entire U.S. 24 corridor from SR 13 to SR 115 is tentatively scheduled to be resurfaced in late summer.
Drivers can expect alternating lane closures in both directions of U.S. 24 for the duration of the project.
Work on the project is expected to be complete in early November. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
INDOT urges drivers to consider safety for all by slowing down, using extra caution and driving distraction-free when travelling in and around all work zones.
