WARRSAW — A Warsaw man previously arrested Oct. 24 on theft and drug charges was arrested again Nov. 4 on a theft charge.
Ted William Connors, 60, of 109 N. Washington St., apt. D, is charged with theft, a level 6 felony. He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday on a $7,500 preliminary bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a Warsaw Police Department detective was provided with a report from the Rapid City, S.D., Police Department. The report said a woman was told about a man on Facebook who gave $200,000 grants.
The victim messaged an “Agent Daron White,” who was going to send the victim a package through FedEx containing $200,000. The victim never received a package. She was told the FedEx truck was involved in an accident. The victim then was told to send money orders to pay for the release of her package from the fire department. The victim said she sent money orders to Connors at his address, according to court documents.
The detective was provided with photographs of two $1,000 receipts for postal money orders that were sent on Aug. 1. Both receipts had Connors in the pay line and were from the victim.
The detective spoke with the victim who said she sent the $2,000 to Connors. She also sent $19,000 to someone in Wake Forest, N.C.
On or about Oct. 21, the detective talked to Connors. Connors said he obtained the $2,000 but no longer had the money. Connors said someone on Facebook contacted him about the situation, but he blocked and deleted them.
The detective talked with Connors about the alleged ongoing thefts due to the fact Connors has several reports with WPD for similar incidents. Connors said he had stopped and he promised there wouldn’t be any other issues.
When Connors was previously arrested Oct. 24, he was charged with attempted theft, a level 6 felony; possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor; and possession of marijuana, a class C misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit for that case, Connors is accused of getting someone from Davenport, Iowa, to send him $1,500 in cash in return for a $100,000 grant that was never given.
When police talked to Connors, the detective saw a marijuana pipe in his apartment in plain sight. Upon a search of the apartment, officers located several pieces of paraphernalia with possible plant residue on them.
