WINONA LAKE — The Birding Basics Expedition, hosted by the Lilly Center for Lakes
& Streams, invites the public to accompany them for a birding experience in Pisgah Marsh
on Saturday, May 31.
Bird watchers and enjoyers of nature are given an educational experience while observing the wildlife at Pisgah Marsh Boardwalk, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., southeast of North Webster.
There are gravel parking areas on the property, which is located at 9939 E 350N.
The event is led by Nathaniel Wise, an experienced birder with extensive knowledge about
the sounds, appearances, and habits of birds.
The event is an opportunity for people to learn about local birds and observe more secretive species of birds that are not commonly seen.
Local species that guests may see include red-necked ducks, blue
herons, doves, black-capped-chickadees, purple finches, and black-billed cuckoo, which
are quite talkative creatures.
This is a great time of year for birding because many species are returning to area swamps
and marshes this time of year.
Pisgah Marsh is an ideal environment for many birds, which contributes to the large variety of species that will likely be seen at the event.
Wise and the Lilly Center are not new to bird watching, so attendees can be prepared for an informative trip regarding the surrounding sights and sounds. The marsh’s plant life is also enjoyable to observe, and it provides shelter for the birds and critters.
Participants should be ready to bring their own binoculars as there is a limited supply available.
You can RSVP for this free event at the Lilly Center website.
This event is underwritten by the Zimmer Biomet Foundation and Depuy Synthes.
