WARSAW — The goal for the Kosciusko Board of Realtors’ cruise-in at Third Friday downtown Warsaw on Friday evening was to raise $10,000 for children’s charities.
Within the first couple hours, they were already “pretty close,” according to Angie Jarrett, Kosciusko Board of Realtors community relations chair.
She said, “Tonight is our cruise-in. So we are raising money for all of our children’s charities. Every year, we do scholarships for seniors in Kosciusko County. We do back-to-school backpacks for kids through Combined Community Services. We do Boots for Scholars. Partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters. And then just various charities throughout the year for primarily kids in our county.”
A list of sponsors “pre-sponsored” the event, she said, and during Third Friday they accepted free-will donations.
This was the fifth year for KBOR’s cruise-in, having partnered with Main Street Warsaw for Third Friday in August for the past three years.
“So it’s been an awesome partnership and we have a lot better crowd,” Jarrett said.
The vehicles in the cruise-in included older and newer models, cars, trucks and motorcycles.
The Board of Realtors also had a People’s Choice Award for the cruise-in.
“It’s another way that we’re trying to raise money. They can vote for whatever their favorite car is and then the winner will get a trophy at the end based on what the people thought,” she said.
They used to do a car show instead of a cruise-in, but Jarrett said they’ve changed it up in the last couple of years.
“Our goal is to help kids in our community, so that’s why we do what we do out here,” she concluded.
As expected with Third Friday, there were various vendors on hand under their canopies. There were food trucks, with One Ten Craft Meatery offering a single patty smash burger and fries at the price of “pay what you want.” The line for that menu snaked along the street.
Entertainment included performances by the band Gunslinger, Deb Collier’s School of Dance and the Warsaw Community High School drumline.
Main Street Warsaw Events Coordinator Nora Christiansen said the cruise-in was “just a great way to collaborate with Kosciusko Board of Realtors. They put on the cruise-in, we supply the entertainment and Third Friday aspect of it.”
